A man went to the sheriff’s office Tuesday and said he was concerned that an enclosed trailer parked on his property in Hershey was in fact a stolen trailer. The man said the trailer had fresh white paint and he found no vehicle identification number, except a spot where a VIN appeared to have been removed.

Deputies checked out the trailer in Hershey and found that had been stolen in late-August from an East Fourth business in North Platte. The owner positively identified characteristics of the trailer and told deputies that it used to be red. His name was stamped to the trailer’s inside wall, according to a sheriff’s statement. The owner also identified numerous items that were still inside the 24-foot trailer.

The trailer is valued at $3,500.

Phillip Tyan, 43, was identified as the man who parked the trailer on the property on or about Nov. 20-21.

Tyan was arrested Thanskgiving Day and jailed in Lincoln County for his 10th charge of driving on a suspended license. He lists Ovid, Colo. as his address, but he has been jailed in Lincoln County six times since February 2010, five times for DUS and one prior time for theft, according to sheriff’s records.

Tyan denied knowing the trailer was stolen and said he got it from another person, according to the statement. He was cited for felony possession of stolen property

The investigation continues, the sheriff said.
