The Goodfellow Shoe Fund -- an all-volunteer effort in the North Platte area since 1947 -- began Monday. Their goal is the same now as then: to provide preschool and school-aged children who are in need, with a good, sturdy pair of shoes. The Goodfellow Shoe Fund drive runs through Dec. 25. During the last fiscal year, the organization bought 661 pairs of shoes. More families with children ages 2-16 need help buying sturdy school shoes during these difficult economic times. The holiday season is a perfect time to donate to help provide a pair of shoes to a child, organizers say and they ask you to please consider giving to this important organization. Donations can be made to the Goodfellow Shoe Fund by mailing a check to P.O. Box 923, North Platte, NE 69103, or sent or taken to Great Western Bank, P.O. Box 220, North Platte, NE 69103. On Dec. 12, Kentucky Fried Chicken will support the Goodfellow Shoe Fund by sharing their profits that day from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
