Firefighters battled an attic fire for about two hours Saturday night at 500 West Ninth, the corner of Ninth and Ash. Residents reported smoke at 9:45 p.m. When they arrived, firefighters used the ladder truck to get to the attic, where they cut a hole to vent the smoke and extinguished an active flame, Battalion Chief Jason Trimble said. The cause has not been officially determined but Trimble said it was apparently electrical. Firefighters remained on the scene until about midnight, Trimble said.
