Three hundred people turned out Nov. 17 in Sutherland for the 3 Alarm Fundraiser and helped raise about $16,000 for the Sutherland, Hershey and Paxton fire departments. A $20 raffle ticket provided chances to win a Watusi cow, an African animal with a 10-12 foot horn span. Two cows were raffled. One of them was donated to the Lincoln Connection homeless shelter in North Platte, organizers said. The fire departments of Paxton, Sutherland and Hershey responded to hundreds of fire calls and rescues in 2012 and supplied mutual aid whenever it was needed across the state.
