J. Kirk Brown, Nebraska solicitor general, and Michael Radelet, professor of sociology at the University of Colorado-Boulder, will discuss “The Death Penalty: Justice, Retribution and Dollars,” on Wednesday, Nov. 28.

Brown appears as part of the 2012-13 E.N. Thompson Forum on World Issues.

The 7 p.m. event will originate from the Lied Center for Performing Arts at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and be simulcast at North Platte Community College’s South Campus in room 145.

Brown has been solicitor general since 2003. He has been Nebraska’s primary counsel in capital cases and was counsel of record in Nebraska’s three most recent executions – State v. Otey (1994), State v. Joubert (1996), and State v. Williams (1997).

Radelet’s research has focused on capital punishment, problems of erroneous convictions, and racial bias and ethical issues in capital cases and executions. The dialogue will be moderated by Susan Poser, dean of the UNL College of Law.
