The town is crazy but the radio station is OKKK in Tuna, Texas, in the community play during the next two weekends at the Neville Center. Carey Harder, at left, and Carolyn Clark are the directors.

A Tuna Christmas, a comedy about a small Texas town during the Christmas season, opens at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17.

The show continues for four more performances at the Neville Center, downtown at the old Fox Theater.

In a sequel to the award winning comedy Greater Tuna, the third smallest town in Texas celebrates Christmas.

Radio station OKKK news commentators Thurston Wheelis and Arles Struvie report on Yuletide activities, including a hot competition for the annual lawn display championship.

In other news, Joe Bob Lipsey's production of "A Christmas Carol" is jeopardized by unpaid electric bills.

That’s the way it goes in Tuna, Texas.

“These characters are mad,” Co-director Carolyn Clark said. “They are people you would recognize. You might have grown up with some of them, but things in Tuna are just crazy. It’s hilarious.”

Many colorful Tuna residents, some from Greater Tuna and some appearing for the first time, join the holiday fun.

The leading actors in the play, Kent Winder and Ryan Pleiss, play dual roles, portraying female characters too, which adds to the fun.

Carey Harder joins Clark as co-director. Harder had a prime role onstage in White Christmas a year ago.

"A Tuna Christmas is a total delight for all seasons," playhouse manager Scott Carlson said.

In addition to the first show Saturday night, performances are set Sunday, Nov. 18 and Thanksgiving weekend, Nov. 23-25. The curtain goes up at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturdays and the Sunday shows are 2 p.m. matinees.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for children and students. They can be purchased from noon-5 p.m. Monday-Friday at the playhouse or before any performances at the door, unless there is a sellout, or online at www.northplattecommunityplayhouse.com.
