Votes for the Wallace school board were recounted Friday after just one slim vote separated two candidates on Election Day, Lincoln County Election Clerk Becky Rossell said. The second time, the count remained the same. Lila Koop won by a whisker with 228 votes. Kenny Ogier received 227. Kristi Grittiths received the most votes in the race for three seats on the board -- 357. Cindy Christensen got 281. There was 1 write-in vote. The Wallace school district includes parts of three counties -- Hayes, Perkins and Lincoln, so election clerks and canvassing boards in all three counties convened at 10 a.m. Friday to supervise the process. The ballots were run through optical scanning machines in each county. Rossell said early ballots were counted first, then ballots cast on Election Day, then provisional ballots -- ballots that must be verified to see if voters are properly registered, as happens when a voter moves to a new address.
