| Baker triumphs in city council race |  |

Brook Baker's slim lead over Josh Welden for the ward 1 seat on the North Platte city council stands, Election Clerk Rebecca Rossell announced Friday. Rossell supervised a non-partisan canvassing board that counted provisional ballots and double-checked the previous count, as required by state law. Unofficially, Baker held a 21 vote lead when the first votes were counted. After the canvassing board met, he officially held a 23 vote lead. Baker initially received 921 votes and Welden had 900. After the review, Baker had 946 and Welden 923.

@1coolmom: Though I agree that new people can bring new ideas to the table, youth does not equal progress (or progressive), nor would elderly equal intransigence.
My hope is that Mr. Baker will bring fresh ideas and prospective to the council, willingly listen to the people, and make common sense decisions based on logical facts and not some political ideology. Time will tell though. |

It is so refreshing to see some young faces on the Council. How are we ever to move forward without a younger approach? This has been much needed, for very long. |
