Barack Obama

President Barack Obama has won re-election in a tight campaign, besting Mitt Romney in enough swing states to secure four more years in office, according to a bevy of analysts who made the declaration by midnight on the East Coast.

Obama won in Ohio, Wisconsin and Iowa as well as traditionally Democratic strongholds of Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Michigan and Colorado.

Before midnight Central Time, Obama had 303 electoral votes locked up, to Romney's 203, according to an analysis by the Huffington Post. Two hundred and seventy was the magic number.

Only Florida remained too close to call.

I have been reading comments, articles, blogs, and opinion columns from all over the country since the election, and one thing appears to be quite common. The left is doing to much back-slapping, and the right is doing too much complaining.

If we, the people, and our government are going to fix the problems we face, today and tomorrow, we need to set aside our feelings and working together. Nothing will be accomplished, and the problems will only get worse, if we continue to bicker like children.

It is time that both sides leave political ideology at the door, and work together to find logical and common sense solutions. This will only happen if the people demand it of our politicians.

Enlightened intellectual…. That says so much on so many levels -- I bow to your superior brain! I have liberal family members who also call themselves enlightened intellectuals—even use the word erudite when speaking of themselves and their crowd! It must be a liberal prerequisite to be able to say that about yourself with a straight face—pat on the back self-esteem—neither of these two relatives have a college degree and one is even a felon for stealing 20 grand from a non-profit that benefits stray animals…. They hang with a coffee house crowd of self appointed superiors—some educated some not—spouting tolerance, love and light while calling ALL who disagree with them some version of racist bigots. They, like all zealots, have eaten their own many times. Yep.. enlightened intellectuals… gotta love ‘em especially when they’re family—just better watch your back because they will turn on YOU eventually.

The people spoke loud and clear? The electoral vote may look distorted but the actual peoples vote was almost a 50/50 split. Thats not exactly loud and clear. And before you respond, yes, John Kerry did win the peoples vote by a fraction of a percentage against Bush as well. Yet another flawed part of our system. Electoral votes made sense in the Civil War era but do not make any sense now. In virtually any political race, other than the presidency, the popular vote wins. Either way, with Obamas tax policies everyones taxes are going up including, and most importantly, to the middle class that the Democrats say they are fighting for. Ya, right. The stock market dropped over 300 points yesterday, the day after Obama won re-election. Coincindece? I think not. After the first of the year, when all the tax hikes hit, you will see America start to sink even deeper into the recession. Things will tighten up even more than they have the last 4 years. Companies will feel the squeeze of higher taxes and the effects of ObamaCare and the cutbacks and layoffs will commence. And yes, they will look overseas to cheap labor. And just wait until the crackdown on coal hits with a full onslought. No coal, no shipping to power plants. No shipping to power plants and the railroad needs fewer workers and the layoffs will begin. You heard it here first.

@negirl, yes, that is all. I have no doubt I will survive 4 more years. We know what this administration looks like, Romney on the other hand would have been scary. Hopefully the GOP will nominate a conservative next time.

It's not hard to win an election when you win every swing state. The GOP is getting left in the dirt by a more progressive thinking society. Plain and simple! I can't wait to see who they come up with next election. I'm hoping for Todd Akin.

@Mike, You asked "And how did that effect the deficit when people who make over a quarter million dollars don't have to pay taxes? " You think people who make over a quarter million do NOT pay taxes? I now understand how Obama won reelection. @Negirl, can you try making a post without saying "it is what it is"?

There was never a doubt in my mind. I knew Obama was gonna win again. It is what it is. Lets move forward folks. I paid 4.75 a gallon in 2008 during the Bush administration in Colorado. It will be 10 years before the REAL history of Obamas presidency will be known. I would like to tell you also. In 2016 we will have the USA's first woman president. Hillary Clinton. Remember you heard it here 1st...lol Bill's gonna be the 1st husband. lol

Gas was about $1.86 when Obama took office. Don't forget September 11 when our country was attacked and about 3,000 people lost their lives to Muslims. What should we have done - sit back and wait for another attack? That's what Clinton did and we got Sept 11. We got a second Sept 11 under Obama and lost more lives. Guess we're sitting back on that one, too. After all it was a video which caused the problem - believe that one??? Al-Quaeda is growing - they want us dead. Obama tells us he has them under control = fantasy. Obama has wasted millions of dollars during his term and we still have 23 million unemployed people, more millions on food stamps. Millions given to companies which have gone bankrupt. More money is now being spent on welfare programs than any other program. We have a gimme society now - we need to go back to capitalism which made our country the great one it once was. Will it ever be again?

I'm not paying double for gas. Even when your precious Bush was in office I was paying $4 a gallon. And as far as health care costs, most of the parts of the new law don't take effect until 2014, so look at your calendar. And talk about costs, how much did two wars cost? And how did that effect the deficit when people who make over a quarter million dollars don't have to pay taxes? Can you imagine if there was a flat tax rate for everyone (the one and only good thing from Herman Cain) how easy it would be to pay for things that actually help Americans? You act like 2000-2008 never happened, but it did. It did in a big way.

How do the enlightened intellectuals like paying double for the price of gas? Obama wants it even higher. Did you get solar panels from Solindra? Oh, I forgot, that company went bankrupt after Obama gave them millions. Do you or your company pay for health insurance? Has it gone down as promised? NO It will only go more up with Obamacare. Do you know how many taxes are imbedded in Obamacare – not just for the rich either. Do you know how many new departments are added to the govt in Obamacare? That means more costs, not less. We are already broke.

Hahahahaha! Four more years! Four more years! Now you know how we enlightened intellectuals felt when Bush was re-elected, only this time it isn't a huge embarrassing mistake like it was then!

I wasn't surprised. When the GOP settled for a moderate who is barely distinguishable from Obama on most issues, how could you expect much excitement? Once you step back from all the campaign BS there is not going to be much change down the road either, just excuses and blame the other guys. Groundhogs day.

I'm surprised too, walt. Dont read too much into the huffington post, online it has up to date totals and an excellent live map. It was near the top of my google search page. There are several excellent national sources with the same facts.
