Anthony Nunnekamp of North Platte was charged Monday with first-degree sexual assault in connection with the alleged rapes of women by men in the Virgil Apodaca family. DNA reports indicate Nunnenkamp, 28, was involved in at least one of the alleged rapes that occurred in May, Police Information Officer Rodney Brown said. Brown said Nunnekamp’s DNA profile was present in several of the swabs taken from an alleged victim. The case began May 13 when police went to the Great Plains Regional Medical Center where officials reported treating apparent rape victims. A teenage girl and some adult women said they had been sexually assaulted the night before. Following investigation, Virgil Apodaca Sr., Virgil Apodaca Jr., Anthony Apodaca and Jeromy Apodaca were arrested, Brown said. The Apodacas have been in jail since their arrests. On Nov. 5, Nunnenkamp was arrested after the DNA lab reports were received, Brown said. Nunnenkamp was convicted last spring for possession of stolen property and sentenced to 300 days in jail on May 7 after he pleaded no contest to the misdemeanor. He was allowed to have a work-release permit from jail. That crime occured in October 2011. Police found him in possession of $620 worth of merchandise reported stolen from Reliable Electronics in North Platte. In all, Nunnenkamp has been arrested six times since October 2011, four times on driving offenses and twice on theft-related charges. He is currently in the Lincoln County Jail.
