A Lincoln man who sold methamphetamine and cocaine in North Platte was sentenced Monday to 12 years, 7 months in prison.

Alejandro Garcia, 32, was held responsible for the distribution of 1.5-5 kilograms (3-11 pounds) of methamphetamine and 100-200 grams of cocaine in the Lincoln, Grand Island, and North Platte areas between Dec. 1, 2009 and Oct. 31, 2011, U.S. Attorney Deb Gilg said.

During that time frame, Garcia sold methamphetamine to an undercover Lincoln Police officer on five occasions.

Following his prison term, Garcia will serve five years on supervised release, Gilg said.

Several law agencies cooperated in the investigation -- the Lincoln/Lancaster County Narcotics Task Force including officers of the Lincoln Police Department, the Lancaster County Sheriff?s Department and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Police Department; as well as a task force of law enforcement agencies in a 22-county area in west-central/southwest Nebraska, including the North Platte Police Department, Dawson County Sheriff’s Office, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Red Willow County Sheriff’s Office, Frontier County Sheriff’s Office, Nebraska State Patrol, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).

I-80 bust leads to 27 years

Jaymond Taylor, 36, from Mountain Iron, Minn. was sentenced Oct. 16 to 27 years imprisonment, plus 5 years of supervised probation when he gets out.

Taylor and Jeanna R. Springer of Keewatin, Minn. were stopped by the Nebraska State Patrol near Grand Island on Sept. 13, 2011 as they were traveling back to Minnesota. Troopers found nearly six pounds of meth in their Nissan pickup.

Taylor pled guilty to possession with intent to distribute. Codefendant Springer also pled guilty and was sentenced to 22 months plus three years of supervised probation. She played a lesser role, prosecutors said.
