Mail: Vote 'no' on hunting, fishing amendmentTell North Platte what you think

Next week, Nebraska residents will be voting next week on Proposed Amendment No. 2, which would make hunting and trapping a right, thereby protecting the use of "traditional" hunting and trapping methods and shadowing the option of safer, less cruel live traps.

If this amendment is passed, Nebraska would never be able to ban cruel traps.

Steel-jaw, body-gripping, and snare traps are exceedingly cruel. Even rubber-coated traps cause immense pain and injury.

Body-gripping traps crush bones and slowly suffocate animals, while snares jerk tightly around victims' necks, faces, bodies, or limbs. With all these traps, terrified animals, in their frantic struggles to escape, will commonly injure themselves further, snapping bones and tearing flesh—some animals even chew off their own limbs to break free.

By voting “No” on this issue, we can demonstrate that our state cares about the welfare of our wildlife, as well as show that we are compassionate people.

Please vote “No” on Proposed Amendment No. 2.

I voted no to amendment 2 because hunting and fishing rights will always be secure in Nebraska. No need to alter the constitution.

Make sure you use humane bullets when you catch them live and have to remove their life. Too much PC in this world.

You're gonna kill 'em and skin 'em and sell the pelt, what difference does it make how they are trapped? Yes, a quick painless death is more desirable, but if you use conibear traps and you make your set right (so that dogs and whatnot can't get into them) that isn't a problem.

Obviously the person righting this has not used traps very frequently, If at all.......I've trapped all sorts of things as a kid growing up and its not anywhere near as bad as what the writer of this article would like you to believe....Most are set to very light poundage(Unless your after bear!) and i have gotten my hands and fingers caught in them a couple of times....Haven't lost any body parts yet.........Also, live traps work well on some animals, but a lot of wild animals are very nervous around live traps and thus won't go into them......Also, As already stated, They are going to die anyways!!
