Jack Price

I graduated from UNL with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree and spent my first six years teaching middle school social studies in Bettendorf, Iowa and then became the high school activities director after attaining my Masters in Education from Western Illinois University.

I continued post-graduate studies at UNL while serving high school principal positions in Nebraska and Colorado.

My final administrative positions were with the North Platte Public Schools where I initially was responsible for personnel and community relations and then curriculum, instruction and assessment. Titles never fully encompass the range of responsibilities assigned, nor the human relations skills necessary to be successful.

My decision to place my name on the ballot for the NPPS board of education stems from my continuing passion for education and to bring a comprehensive (internal and external) perspective to the board. Experiences with other community boards has provided additional experience as to proper board functioning.

As a prospective board member I would not be bringing a personal agenda to accomplish. My desire as a board member would be the following:

Ensure that the board focus on the statutory responsibilities it has and not get involved in management responsibilities;

Ensure that programming decisions consider a wide variety of impacts both for students, staff and the community and that they have well-defined evaluative components to determine success.

Ensure that communication with the public is invited through multiple formats and is desired.

Ensure a high level of transparency.

Jack Price is a candidate for the Ward 3 seat on the North Platte Public Schools Board of Education, challenging incumbent Jim Paloucek.

Candidates for public office are invited to write 350 words to the Bulletin about their qualifications.

Be ready to vote. The election is Nov. 6.
