In celebration of Juliette Gordon Low’s birthday (the founder of Girl Scouts) Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska will cut the ribbon at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday on their new cabin at Lake Maloney.

The new Lakeview cabin sits upon the south shore of Lake Maloney where the original Lakeview cabin was built in 1948.

The new cabin has twice the capacity of the old one. Fundraising began in August 2011.

Lakeview Cabin offers girls a place to create memories, make discoveries, develop friendships and learn skills. Swimming, fishing, canoeing and fun in the sun draw scouts, as well as lease groups, to Lake Maloney and the cabin.

The new cabin features:

• 4,574 useable sq. ft. and has two levels.

• Capacity to host two groups at one time, with each side of the cabin (both upper and lower levels) consisting of a kitchen, meeting room, sleeping room and restroom.

• Fully climate controlled to be used in all types of weather.

• A lower level restroom that doubles as a storm shelter.

• All restrooms handicapped accessible.

• Each sleeping room with nine bunk beds and a single rollaway bed (sleeps 19 per side).

• Wireless access available throughout the cabin.

• Each meeting room as two couches, end tables, a dining room table and four folding tables.

• Fully functional kitches with dishwashers, refrigerators, stoves and cookware.

• Large deck running the length of the upper level.

The Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska council is the largest girl-serving organization in the state with 26,000 members in 92 Nebraska counties as well as Carter Lake, Iowa. For information on how to join, volunteer, reconnect or donate, call 877.447.5558 x201 or www.girlscoutsnebraska.org.
