About 11:15 p.m. the front desk at the Comfort Inn notified guest David Freeman that his semi-tractor was burning in front of the building, and called the fire department.

Freeman said he was on his way from Oregon to Ohio to pick up a trailer and stopped in North Platte for the night.

The fire apparently started in the engine compartment of the semi, a 1992 Peterbilt, according to Capt. Bill Kleinow of the North Platte Fire Department.
