The Utah Repertory Dance Theater will perform. The company was founded In 1966, committed to the creation, performance, and preservation of modern dance in America.

This presentation — “Time Capsule: A Century of Dance” — is an informative multi-media retrospective which pays homage to the ingenuity, creativity, and inventiveness of legendary 20th century choreographers.

The company has performed in more than 300 cities in the United States, Europe, and Canada. Its mission is to take the arts beyond metropolitan centers and into diverse communities that often lack opportunities for arts exposure.

Venues range from Bicknell, Utah, (a town of 350) to Vienna, Austria, and from school rooms to the Kennedy Center.

The company also conducts residency programs for public schools to educate audiences of all ages through classes, workshops, lectures, and performances.

In Utah alone, the Repertory Dance Theater has reached more than 30,000 students.

In North Platte, the residency will include a one-hour matinee performance of “Imagine That!” for students in grades 1-6.

This performance is designed to encourage creative thinking, imagination, and curiosity about nature. Also there will be workshops with elementary students.

During the summer, eight dance students from North Platte had the opportunity to attend summer intensive training as part of the Repertory Dance Theater’s artist in residency program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

These students will perform with the company Sunday during the concert.

Fifty free tickets are available to dance students, if they are accompanied by an adult who buys a ticket for this event, organizers Phyllis Swigart said. No more than one free ticket will be given to any family.

Adults who would like to take dance students to the concerts should call Pat Hoban, 534-4699, after 6 p.m.

Other communities who will be included in the dance company’s Arts Across Nebraska tour are Norfolk, Chadron, and Scottsbluff.

Admission to the Repertory Dance Concert is with season membership in the North Platte Concert Association. Memberships are available from the secretary of the North Platte Concert Association, Pat Hoban, 1412 West 4th St., North Platte, NE 69101 Phone: (308) 534-4699. The cost is $50 for adults, $15 for students, and $100 for families. Special patron memberships are also available.

Memberships will also be sold at the Dance Repertory Theater’s concert on Sunday at the Neville Center.

Season membership in the North Platte Concert Association allows reciprocity with Cozad, Kearney, McCook, Holdrege, and Grand Island concert associations.

The performance is presented by the Lied Center in Lincoln through their Arts Across Nebraska program in partnership with the North Platte Concert Association, with the generous support of the National Endowment of the Arts, the Nebraska Arts Council, and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment.

The NebraskaLand National Bank is the local sponsor.
