New utility vehicles and trailer
|
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office received two utility terrain vehicles and a trailer Tuesday and it didn’t cost the taxpayers a dime. In the past, deputies would use their own all-terrain vehicles when they needed one, Sheriff Jerome Kramer said. But this time, Maxwell Off-Road and Kawasaki and Kohler Trailer Sales are donating the UTVs and trailer to the county, Kramer said. The Kawasaki company has a grant available for law enforcement agencies, and Kramer said the UTVs will be used for about a year and then turned back over to Maxwell’s. That process will continue as long as the sheriff’s office needs to utilize the program, he said. To haul the UTVs, Bob Kohler of Kohler’s Trailer Sales provided a trailer at a much-reduced sales price. The money that bought the trailer was federal seizer money that was taken from a drug dealer, Kramer said. Kramer said he will make the UTVs available to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Posse and other police agencies in the area. The UTVs could be used to search for missing persons, collect evidence, assist in crowd control at celebrations and patrol game and park areas.
