A bad axle on a trailer apparently started fires Saturday afternoon on I-80 between Paxton and Sutherland.

Three fires broke out in the I-80 median over a span of nearly eight miles, according to the Nebraska State Patrol.

I-80 was closed for an hour and a half, from 3:05-4:32 p.m., because of poor visibility.

A motorist called the NSP and reported seeing a trailer with sparks coming out of an axle.
