Two men were severely injured Friday night when their speeding pickup drove into the ditch, hit a driveway and went airborne. Driver Joey Guillemin and passenger Justin Covert of North Platte were both ejected and Covert was pinned under the pickup. Guillermin was thrown clear of the truck but suffered a broken leg, broken hip and facial cuts, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. Their speeding pickup strayed off the shoulder of West State Farm Road and traveled in the north ditch until it hit a private driveway, launched into the air for 130 feet, landed nose first and flipped over, according to a LCSO report. Rescuers lifted the pickup off Covert, who remained unconscious. He and Guillemin were taken to Great Plains Regional Medical Center and from there, both were flown by helicopter to Denver. Both men are 20 years old. Alcohol could have been a contributing factor, investigators said. The wreck occurred about 11:30 p.m. on 3100 W. State Farm Road. Citations are pending, LSCO said.
