Mayor: Four years 'under the hood' of cityTell North Platte what you think

Mayor Marc Kaschke

As a teenager, I got my first start in business by selling sweet corn on the corner of A and Buffalo.

The hot summer days out in the fields gave me my first taste of the value of hard work. I continued with an entrepreneurial spirit by opening a business selling used CDs in college.

Even today, I continue my work assisting new businesses with strategic planning, financial planning and business development. I bring real world business experience to the city.

I have spent the last four years digging in “under the hood” of city government. Some things I’ve found to be a stark contrast to the business world, such as the pace of progress and lack of financial controls and efficiencies.

As mayor, I have begun the work to bring some common sense measures to city government.

I’ve taken a practical approach to reducing debt levels and keeping a lid on spending. Every budget I have submitted to the city council has reduced the property tax levy.

By working together with volunteers and private donors we were able to make improvements like curbside recycling, a family splash pad and numerous improvements to our parks and athletic facilities.

All of these great additions would not have been possible if we had to rely on government alone.

I want to see us continue to partner with the private sector to make improvements in our quality of life.

Our community has seen tremendous growth over the past four years.

We have seen more than $200 million in actual and planned new construction.

Our local sales have increased every year and now are at an all-time record.

Unemployment has declined to around 3%.

North Platte is better off than it was four years ago and even my opponent agrees that our community is moving in the right direction.

As your Mayor, a businessman, and the father of five, my top priority is continuing to build a better future for our children and grandchildren.

That's my pledge to you and I hope to once again earn your support.
