Floriberto Parra-Munoz Jr., 28, of North Platte, died early Wednesday morning when the car he was driving went out of control on Interstate-80. Parra-Munoz’s car rolled over and he was killed around 3:30 a.m., a State Patrol investigator said. The wreck occurred near Brady. Earlier Parra-Munoz led police on a chase through North Platte at high speed. A police patrol officer saw the Chevy Impala on East Fourth and believed it to be the same car that was involved in a gasoline drive-off on Tuesday at a Rodeo Road Kwik Stop. The officer tried to stop the car, but it sped off, police spokesman Rodney Brown said. The officer chased the car east on Fourth, south to Philip, east to Newberry, north back to Fourth and south on Bicentennial. The car ran several stop signs. The police shift supervisor called the chase off out of concern for public safety. Parra-Munoz was not positively identified as the driver at the time, but the car was registered in his name. The gasoline was reportedly stolen Tuesday. A witness said Parra-Munoz drove off without paying for nearly $50 worth of gas. He was identified from a Nebraska ID he left at the store, Brown said. Police were unable locate him at that time. There were two other active warrants on Parra-Munoz, Brown said.
