A North Platte man was beaten Friday and his luck didn’t get any better when police arrived and charged him with attempted theft.

Shortly after 9 p.m., police received a report of stolen medication from a woman living in the 800 block of East Sixth.

She told an officer that she invited an acquaintance, Zach Kaiser, to come over. She saw Kaiser trying to take some medicine and confronted him. Kaiser gave back what is believed to be most of the medication and left, Police Investigator John Deal said.

Later that evening, Kaiser was assaulted. The assault was separate from the theft. Deal said it’s not known if the two calls are related.

Kaiser was treated for injuries from the assault, then jailed for attempted theft.

Deal said the assault is still under investigation.
