Work has begun on a book to commemorate the Niobrara River Valley Wildfires of 2012. The book committee is currently soliciting stories, reflections, photos and any other pertinent facts from the wildfires to be considered for inclusion. We would like to hear from the fire fighters, landowners, volunteers (those who helped in any way with the fires, whether out in the field, at the aid stations or in any other capacity) and anyone else with something to share. All recollections are welcomed, whether they be heart wrenching, humorous or simply a first person account of the fires.
The committee would prefer to have photos submitted in a digital format; however, they can be scanned if necessary. They also ask that all photos submitted be identified to the best of the submitter’s ability (as to date, location, etc.) and that the photographer be identified so that credit can be given. Submissions are due by Dec. 1. The committee cannot guarantee that all submissions will be used or used in their entirety.
Stories can be submitted to Chera Bammerlin-Sisson at 232 E. 7th Ave., Ainsworth, NE 69210 or Sandi McCoy, PO Box 244, Springview, NE 68778.
Electronic submissions are also encouraged to Chera at email@example.com and Sandi at firstname.lastname@example.org.
All of the profits from the sale of the commemorative books will be given to local fire departments to help defray the costs incurred by the departments.
It is the goal of the book committee to gather stories about the wildfires that raged throughout the Niobrara River Valley and combine them with captivating images to create a lasting tribute to and for all who took part in this historical event.
We are most thankful for your help.
