A fire blew the top off an oil storage tank during the noon hour Thursday at Bailey Yard, sending clouds of black smoke into the sky. No one was hurt in the explosion, Union Pacific spokesman Mark Davis said. The rest of the tank was intact and acted like a chimney, as heavy smoke poured out of the top. The 6,000 gallon tank is on the west side of the year, near a run-through service track. It contained about two-feet of heavy lube oil, Davis said. Davis did not know the cause. The fire was reported at 12:30 p.m. and was put out slightly more than an hour later with foam suppressant, Davis said.
