A tiny slice of the North Platte Quality Growth Fund will help build a second access driveway from South Newberry Road to a new Inland Truck Parts center.

The money will go to the Federal Highway Administration, which will acquire the land for the Nebraska Department of Roads.

The city council authorized the grant Tuesday, following the recommendation of a citizen’s review committee – David Fudge, Pat Keenan, Dudley Oltmans, Bob Phares and Kim Steger.

The amount will not exceed $39,050, the city council said.

The new Inland Truck Parts and repair center is currently under construction. Groundwork is underway at the building site, south of the Flying J Travel Center at the Newberry I-80 interchange.

North Platte’s Quality Growth Fund contains nearly $2.5 million.

The money accumulates from a fraction of city sales tax receipts, and is to be used for economic development.

@npscout...typically a grant doesn't have to be paid back but a loan does. I would take the grant monies too. But I don't know how the Growth Fund is handled.

And the bank wouldn't loan them money?

@npscout...like every other construction project, there was probably a change in the design of the building and the second driveway was an added necessity. There are usually some changes made during construction. That's just a WAG.

Gizzmo, I wasn't griping about NebraskaLand National Bank. I was only questioning as to why if Inland had borrowed money from NLNB to finance the construction of their new property then why didn't they ask for a little more to take care of a second driveway.

@npscout...Why single out Nebraskaland Bank to grip about...what about the other names on the sign? B&G Steel and whatever the other sponsor is. Why does everyone else get a pass?

at least they are willing to give back to the community a lot and the probably gave them the loan to build.

With Nebraskaland National Banks name on the building sites sign, as well as in an ad on this page, pray-tell why couldn't said bank have loaned Inland the additional money for their land acquisition/ driveway?
