Police said the caller sounded drunk and gave the dispatcher a non-existent address, but the cops tracked the call to the area of Clearwater Court, a short street in the area of W. Philip and Lakewood.

When police arrived around 1:15 a.m., they heard shots and found a man with a handgun in a nearby yard. During questioning, police realized the man was the same man who called 911, Police Lt. Steve Reeves said.

Police said the caller allegedly fired the gun several times inside his home. They found no evidence of an intruder.

The man, who was not named, was placed in Emergency Protective Custody at Great Plains Regional Medical Center for the safety of himself and the public.

Suburbs, huh? I agree that it's way far from main street in downtown NoPlatte, but I sure didn't know we had "suburbs." Oh, and to the person who said it's "posh" out in the west end, have you gotten a look at those messy islands that hardly ever get mowed and are not taken care of at all on Lakeview Boulevard? Sure is a shame to pay $7,000 to $20,000 in real estate taxes or more to have to drive past those ugly islands. Where are the city laws? Maybe we are in the suburbs where city laws about mowing weeds doesn't apply? Some of the most expensive homes don't even get their streets plowed when the snow hits. Good old Flatrock. Get that taxpayer's money, but squeeze on the services.

EPC-Emergency Protective Custody means they were hospitalized as a danger to themselves or others and therefore confidentiality laws apply. I'm just glad that it didn't end in "suicide by cop"

They can't release his name when it's an epc. Its a mental health issue.

So there were shots fired, the guy called the cops, the cops arrived, and there were more shots? Or the guy just called the cops then fired his gun after police arrived?

Three shots, then about a minute later 3 more. First ones were around 11:15

George, do you know how many shots were fired? I wonder if the guy was playing with his gun like a toy because he was drunk and didn't know any better (even though he should have, this is the kind of thing that gives gun owners a bad name) or if it was the stereotypical "I was cleaning it and it went off" type of thing.

So, if you live in the western part of town, then the police don't release your name?

It is a much nicer part of town than many others and it is built like a surbuban area. Headlines are concise by nature, using synonyms, etc.
