The 4S Goat Expo that will be held Oct. 6-7 in Lincoln County, received a $600 grant from the North Platte/Lincoln County Convention and Visitors Bureau. The grant was awarded Sept. 26 at a regular advisory committee meeting, said Executive Director Lisa Burke.
The 4S Goat Expo has been held for 10 years in Dawson County, where it attracted visitors from Nebraska, Kansas, South Dakota, Colorado and Iowa, Burke said.
The grant will help offset the cost of the featured speaker, Dr. Kenneth M. Andries, Ph.D. of Kentucky State University.
Andries will cover many topics, including multi-species grazing, nutrition, genetics and management and participate with goat producers in a panel discussion.

Grant applications are welcome, Burke said.
Up to $77,000 is earmarked during the 2012-13 fiscal year for promotional and incentive grants. Grants are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis, and all event and activity promoters are encouraged to apply well in advance of their event.
During the past 10 years, the Convention and Visitor's Bureau has awarded more than $288,000 in promotional and incentive grants, Burke said.
Events and activities that occur within Lincoln County will be considered. Applications and information are available from the NP/LCCVB at 308-532-4729 or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
