Pecan tree seeds

A pecan tree (carya illinoinensis) has been chosen as the North Platte’s Tree Board tree of the season. The pecan tree is located at 710 S. Silver Ave. It was planted in 1993 by Jim and Kristi Boyle. A pecan tree may grow to a height of 70-100 ft. It does well in full sun and needs moist, well drained soil. A pecan tree grows into an oval shape and has a spread of 40-75 ft. at maturity. This plant needs two trees for pollination, Tree Board member Mary Shimmin said.
