Laureen Riedesel of the Beatrice Public Library will speak at the North Platte Public Library at noon on Thursday, Oct. 4. Her program, Carnegie Libraries: The Good, the Bad and the Beautiful, is part of the North Platte Friends of the Library Centennial Brown Bag Luncheon Series.
This free program is open to the public. library spokeswoman Terri Johnson said.
This program will showcase various libraries across Nebraska that were built as part of a grant from the Andrew Carnegie Foundation, including the original North Platte Library.
Carnegie’s library legacy is still with us, for better and for worse, and still defines the way people think about libraries.
A few myths will be put to rest as we learn how the past has shaped our present, Johnson said.
Riedesel is director of the Beatrice Public Library. She has researched the history of many of the downtown buildings in Beatrice and leads walking tours during special events. She is also on Nebraska Humanities Council speakers bureau.
Seating is limited so please call the library at 535-8036 for seat reservations by Wednesday, Oct. 3.
Attendees are welcome to bring their own lunch. Tea, coffee, and water will be provided.
