Methodists, Catholics set a day to bless animalsTell North Platte what you think

A community-wide Blessing of Animals Service sponsored by the First United Methodist Church and St. Patrick's Catholic Church of North Platte will take place on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 3 p.m.

An outdoor service is planned at the Memorial Park Gazebo Shelter, near Fourth and Bryan.

Persons of all religious faiths are welcome to bring their pet or animal friend for a time of worship.

Organizers say the blessing honors the special bond between people and their pets through music, thanksgiving and the ritual of blessing.

Animals should be on a leach or in a cage as appropriate. An adult must accompany children bringing animals.

A memorial table will be provided to celebrate pets lost to death and ashes of deceased pets may also be blessed.

The Blessing of the Animals service has been scheduled to coincide with St. Frances of Assisiís Feast Day.

Christians everywhere celebrate his feast day on or around Oct. 4 by blessing their pets in the spirit of the patron saint of animals and ecology.
