Jones, 31, entered the pleas in Lincoln County District Court.

Defense attorney Robert Lindemeier asked for more time to prepare the defense. Deputy Lincoln County Attorney Jennifer Wellan had no objection. Jones was told to return to court on Oct. 29.

Jones’ problems started Aug. 27 when police and firefighters were called around 4 a.m. to the 1700 block of W. Third on the report of a garage on fire. According to Assistant Fire Chief Dennis Thompson, flames were visible inside the garage when they arrived. They made entry and got the fire knocked down quickly. The contents of the garage, including a car, were destroyed and the garage was heavily damaged.

Investigators believe the fire was started by someone pulling the wires of an air compressor, causing an electrical arc. Police Information Officer Rodney Brown said investigators said a neighbor reported his car was stolen and last seen speeding down the alley away from the fire. Police found the car in the parking lot at Pacific Place Apartments, 500 N. Pacific Ave., with several tools that were identified by the owner of the burned garage, but didn’t find the owner.

Police responded later that day to a disturbance at the apartments, where witnesses detained Jones and notified police. Jones remains in the county jail on a $12,500 bond.

In other action:

Warfield

Donald Warfield, 69, of North Platte appeared for a status hearing on charges of sexual assault of a child. Defense attorney Pat Hays asked for a jury trial, which was set for Dec. 4.

Warfield’s is in jail on a $125,000 bond.

Warfield allegedly inappropriately touched the victim, now 15-years-old, beginning when she was seven and continuing for 3-4 years. There is no statute of limitations on child sexual assault in Nebraska. Warfield was also arrested in April for failing to register as a sex offender.

Fichtner

Christopher Fichtner, 31, of North Platte, pleaded not guilty to charges of theft by deception and second degree forgery. Defense attorney Maurice Green of McCook asked for time to discuss the case with the county attorney’s office.

Fichtner was told to return to court Nov. 5 for a status hearing.

Fichtner wrote a check in late June morning for three vehicles at Janssen Motors and drove off with them, but didn’t have the money.

Bloxton

Jeremiah Bloxton pleaded no contest to first-degree trespassing, criminal mischief and third-degree assault.

Lincoln County Attorney Rebecca Harling asked for a pre-sentence investigation to determine restitution to the victim and said she would not object to an own recognizance release.

Sentencing was set for Oct. 12.

Bloxton has a long history of petty crimes. Since July 2011, he has been jailed a dozen times.
