The North Platte High boys were second and the girls third Thursday in the five team Grand Island Invitational. It was their best outing of the year, Head Coach Dennis Fornander said. Wyatt McGuire won the boys race, outdistancing his nearest opponent by more than half a minute. McGuire’s winning time was 16:13.5. Four North Platte boys finished in the top 15. Ace Haws was sixth in 17:50. Christian Bradley was eighth in 18:12 and Marcus Miller finished 15th with a time of 18:50. North Platte’s team score was 47, second to Hastings, which won the meet with a team score of 35.
Lady Dawgs North Platte’s Libby Burrows toured the Indianhead Golf Course in 16 minutes, 52 seconds, good for second place. Teammate Victoria Tockey was fourth in 17 minutes flat. Kayla Dotson finished in the top 10 -- ninth with a time of 17:23. North Platte had three runners in the top 10. All of them ran their best of the season, Fornander said. North Platte girls finished third, just one point behind second-place Columbus. Grand Island won the girls meet. “We are really pleased with the effort,” Fornander said of the Lady Dawgs. “This is the first time we’ve had three girls in the top 10 in quite awhile.”
