Police were able to collar a runaway ewe Wednesday night, after the animal ran through North Platte streets and into a garage. At 6:15 p.m., a caller told police that a sheep was running down the street near West E and Oak. An officer responded and searched the area. He found the animal running south on Elm, pursued by a cowboy in full dress – with hat, vest and spurs, twirling a rope overhead, police information officer Rodney Brown said. The cowboy and policeman eventually cornered the ewe in an open garage and caught it. The ewe was loaded into the back seat of the police car and taken to the North Platte Animal Shelter, where it remained as of Thursday morning. The ewe has a green collar and thick fleece. Police are looking for the owner, who apparently was not the cowboy. If you have information about the sheep or can assist law enforcement in identifying the owner, contact the NPPD at 308-535-6789.
