Hair follicle tests from the 18-month-old child tested positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine and THC, the active chemical in marijuana, police information officer Rodney Brown said.

Prosecuting Attorney Jennifer Wellan asked for a bond of $50,000 for each of them, but Lincoln County Judge Kent Turnbull set it at $25,000.

During discussion of the bond amount, Wellan told Turnbull that David Granados is not suspected of using meth, only marijuana.

The Granados’ 18-month-old child is in the care of the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, Wellan said. Each of the Granados face a maximum penalty of five years jail and $10,000 fine.

Both asked for a public defender.

I suspect that the twins WERE indeed meth exposed at birth and the fact that they were twin to twin transfusion syndrome (and likely would have died from this, tragicly) is the ONLY reason the mother whas not charged in their passing. However, the postive toxicology on the twins would have been sufficient to test the older sibling living in the home and lead to his removal and the parents' arrest. With the co-existing medical condition on the twins, getting charges of endangerment or fetal death would be difficult.....but would have certainly allowed for charges on that older sibling. I suspect this is what led to the 18 month old being tested, not someone "turning them in." I would bet on it, in fact.

This was verified by the medical people and the little blood spots that formed on his chest.....

meth is such a nasty substance. The child would not have to inhale it for it to be found in the hair follicle. Meth can be ingested into the body just by contact in the air. I have seen a person close to overdosing trying to keep a ball of this junk from entering his body as you could see the fluid lump in his chest trying to go down. As he put pressure on it you could hear little shards of meth coming through his skin and hitting the mirror on the wall he was standing in front of......

bellycrawler: my enlightenment is this...#1 do not say I had better do anything...TTIF look it up yourself. #2 no where did I say it was or wasnt drug related? I stated a fact the poor twins died of TTIF period. You said in a later post to seriously "you are well aware of the syndrome" people ugh!

@1coolmom...Meth can leak out of your system through your pores so it is possible for it to also get into the babies system by skin to skin contact...Marijuana however will need to be inhaled in order to get into their system..not saying that the babies werent exposed to meth smoke because if they are willing to smoke pot around the babies then they most likely will do the same with meth..But just saying there are other ways for meth to transfer into someone elses system.

Twin to twin transfusion is not caused by anything a mother does or doesn't do. And singling out women who lose babies is insane. Are we really to the point of criminalizing miscarriage, stillbirth and preterm labor? I think it's sad that this mom is using drugs, and I think it's good that HHS has stepped in if it's that bad. I am sorry she lost her babies and is living that kind of nightmare and I hope she gets the help that she needs to be a mom to her living child.

Ah, nebgirl, that makes sense. Just like second hand smoke from cigarettes, I would surmise. I never thought about second hand smoke from drugs. Makes perfect sense.

1coolmom...I may be totally wrong, but I think all they have to do is be around and inhale it when someone is smoking meth for it to be in thier system.

This is not the first time I've heard of babies hair follicle tests showing drugs. I just wonder how that occurs? Is it from the parent touching/holding the child? How would a baby pick up a + result? Maybe residue on a table? Anyone have any ideas on how this happens?

The twins died from twin to twin transfusion syndrome. Look it up bellycrawler. They autopsied the twins and there were NO drugs in their systems, in other words, they were NOT drug babies.

If the mother were using Methamphetamine, it can certainly cause pre-term labor and fetal death. This could have been a huge factor in the loss of their twin babies. Hopefully they did some testing on the babies and if they died as a result as their mothers drug use, I hope more charges are filed against her!

some people dont deserve to have children.another perfect example of drugs comein first.your still just as bad if you sit by and watch someone do or sell drugs and reap the rewards of the death they deal or do.it is to late when someone dies weather it is the adult or the child.SAD.our children deserve more.

Looks like she's boohooing. However it's probably for HERSELF and not her children. Worthless. Worthless are people who put their needs before their children.

The couple had twin sons who were born/died on september 1st. Makes you wonder if the drugs the mother was doing caused the death of the babies.
