Searchers find body part in Sutherland ReservoirTell North Platte what you think

A team of searchers have found parts of a body Thursday on the Sutherland Reservoir that might be the remains of a missing North Platte man.

Shortly before noon Thursday, a searcher round the right foot and lower leg of a The genetic DNA makeup will be analyzed to confirm that it belonged to Larry Sack, who has been missing since Sept. 3, the sheriff’s office said.

The Sutherland rescue and dive team searched the inlet and lake area throughout the afternoon. Divers dove into parts of the inlet and underwater cameras were used as well. Sheriff Jerome Kramer and deputies searched from boats. The Nebraska State Patrol sent up an aircraft and concerned citizens helped around the shore lines.

The search continued, without success, until 8:30 p.m.

Investigators believe the leg was severed by a boat propeller. The discovery leads rescuers to believe that Sack’s remains are somewhere in the reservoir and not the canal.

Sack’s fishing equipment and pickup were found Sept. 4 on a canal bank six miles above from the lake, where he apparently fell in.

Searchers have looked every day since. Divers checked the bottom of the canal, while airplanes searched overhead and dogs tried to pick up Sand's scent in the surrouding area.

If necessary, the search will continue during the weekend. Foul play is not suspected, the sheriff’s statement said.
