Legendary steam locomotive No. 844 arrives in North Platte this week for Rail Fest.

The historic train engine is on the fifth leg of the UP 150 Express, a tour celebrating Union Pacificís 150th anniversary, and sharing the companyís history with the communities it serves.

No. 844 arrived in North Platte Tuesday. It will be prepared for public display at Bailey Yard, a display that opens Friday.

The public can catch a bus from Cody Park to tour Bailey Yard and see No. 844, plus a half-dozen other historic locomotives.

The tour and bus rides are free but reservations are recommended to minimize the wait. Reserve a seat at www.nprailfest.com

No. 844 is traveling 13,000 miles through 15 states as part of Union Pacificís 150th anniversary celebration. It is on the final leg of the tour and will depart North Platte on Sept. 17, bound for Cheyenne, Wyo.

Union Pacific's rolling 150th anniversary rail museum will also be open to visitors at Bailey Yard.

Abraham Lincoln signed the Pacific Railway Act of July 1, 1862, creating the original Union Pacific. Today, Union Pacific Railroad is the principal operating company of Union Pacific Corporation (NYSE: UNP), linking 23 states in the western two-thirds of the country by rail and moving freight to the global supply chain.

Arrival and departure times for No. 844 can be found at www.upsteam.com. Website visitors can follow No. 844 on a GPS system map that updates its location every five minutes. GPS updates are also available at http://twitter.com/UP_Steam.
