Daviene M. Morrissey, 38, of North Platte, was arraigned in Lincoln County Court Tuesday on a charge of theft by unlawful taking for allegedly stealing from Hansen’s Plumbing. While working at Hansen’s Plumbing, Morrissey allegedly took property belonging to the business. Lincoln County Deputy Attorney Jennifer Wellan said the property that was lost may add up to nearly $40,000. Morrissey allegedly stole money from the business through various methods over a period of about 18 months, a police spokesman told the Bulletin. Wellan asked for a high bond and Judge Kent Turnbull set it at $25,000. Morrissey asked for a public defender. She paid the required 10 percent of her bond Tuesday afternoon and was released.
Also in county court:
Benitez Jennifer G. Benitez, 28, of North Platte, was arrested Monday for her third offense of shoplifting. She was arraigned in Lincoln County Court Tuesday and told by Lincoln County Judge Kent Turnbull that because of her prior offenses this time it’s a felony. Turnbull told her that the charge is enhanceable, because it is third-offense, so this time the charge is a felony. Benitez’s bond was set at $5,000 and she told the court she would hire her own attorney.
Comeau Chase Comeau, 20, of North Platte, was arraigned Tuesday in county court for possession of stolen property and violation of a protection order. Comeau allegedly yelled obscenities at a 21-year-old woman who held the protection order against him. His arrest led to investigation of a prior weapons charge, Deal said. The Lincoln County Attorney’s Office had no objection of an “own recognizance” bond, with an bond of $5,000 if Comeau does not appear in court next time. Comeau was to be released later Tuesday and will be back in court on Oct. 12 with a public defender.
