Zodiac club building

A deliberately-set fire early Monday morning did extensive damage to the interior of the Zodiac Motorcycle Club on Rodeo Road. Assistant North Platte Fire Chief Dennis Thompson said it was apparently arson. The building was an after-hours gathering place for club members. “There were several 'intentional-sets' inside the building,” Thompson told the Bulletin. “We turned it over to police for investigation.” The fire was reported at 1 a.m. by a North Platte Police officer on patrol, Police Information Officer Rodney Brown said. Firefighters saw just a light haze of smoke when they pulled up, but when they forced their way in through a glass door, they encountered heavy smoke and heat. Thompson said the flames were contained to two rooms or so but there was heavy smoke and heat damage throughout. Firefighters were on the scene until 4 a.m., making sure the fire was out. “There are a lot of small rooms inside,” Thompson said. “There’s been some remodeling done, and it was tough to get into some of the voids to make sure.”
