Riders will meet at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16 at the Centennial Park gazebo to take off on the second annual L.A. “Wally” Walter memorial bicycle ride.
Walter, then 56, died June 16, 2011, as he rode a bicycle on the south edge of North Platte. He was hit by a sport utility vehicle on State Farm Road.
Riders will depart Sept. 16 at 5 p.m. and go to the Golden Spike Visitor’s Center and return to the park gazebo.
Tee-shirts will be sold for $15.
There will be a raffle for a $400 gift certificate from Alive Outside, two Trek Bike computers, an adult and a child’s bike helmet, all donated by the Alive Outside bicycle shop.
Other raffle items include a beat bag chair from Erickson’s, plus several items from Cycle Sport (a pair of cycling shorts, Cat Eye bike computer with cadence, two “three feet, it’s the law” cycling jerseys.

Proceeds will benefit the North Platte Trails Committee. There is no pre-registration. Just show up and ride, organizers say.
