The Maxwell volleyball team lost three matches Saturday at the Loomis Tournament, but Maxwell Coach Lori Mau said her team got better all day long. Elwood (5-2) dispatched the Lady Wildcats in the first match, 25-9, 25-14. But Maxwell came back to make it a battle in match two against Shelton (3-3). Maxwell won the first set in overtime, 28-26, lost the second 20-25 and forced the third set into overtime before Shelton won, 28-26. Maxwell got the first set against Sumner Eddyville-Miller (2-7), 26-24, but SEM won the next two battles, 25-19 and 29-27. “Overall, we got better during the day,” Mau said of her young team (1-4). “We still have some mental mistakes that we need to take care of, but the girls fought hard and never stopped working to get better. These girls definitely have heart.”
