The Nebraska State Patrol, in conjunction with the Police Department in Torrington, Wyo. is investigating the discovery of a body in the Pathfinder Irrigation Canal, north of Mitchell in Sioux County, Neb.

Around 8 p.m. MT Monday, a passerby called authorities to report a body in the canal. The body was identified as Joseph Salazar, 49, of Torrington.

Salazar was reported missing earlier on Monday to the Torrington Police by his wife.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine cause of death. The investigation continues, said Deb Collins, spokeswoman for the Nebraska State Patrol.
