Just after midnight Monday, a 35-year-old woman told police that her domestic partner Robert “Robbie” Mills, 33, had previously assaulted her in her home in the 2300 block of East Fifth.

She said Mills left the house in a vehicle with their children. Police were told that Mills may be intoxicated and driving with the children.

An police officer found Mill’s car at a convenience store on East Fourth and police tried conduct a traffic stop near the 300 block of N. Walnut. Mills stopped but then fled, Public Information Officer Rodney Brown said.

After a brief chase, Mills stopped the vehicle in an alley near the 500 block of East Sixth, then took off on foot. He was caught a few blocks away, near Fifth and Cottonwood, Brown said.

Two children, ages 3 and 4, were in Mills’ vehicle without proper restraints during the pursuit, Brown said. Mills was also found with marijuana.

Police did not find enough evidence to charge Mills with domestic assault, but they did charge him with two counts of felony child abuse, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, resisting arrest, motor vehicle flight to avoid arrest and a child restraint violation.

He was taken to the Lincoln County Jail. His bond is set at $50,000.

The children were released to their mother after the investigation.
