The Art and Gift Gallery is proudly hosting this year’s Rail Fest art competition, “Rails Across America," organizer Ron Boerner said Wednesday. All artists are encouraged to prepare their best railroad themed art pieces, and bring them to the Art and Gift Gallery for what may prove to be North Platte’s best art show of the year, Boerner said. Art will be accepted in any medium from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sept. 1, 4-8 and 11-13. Entry fees are $25 for as many as three entries, and $5 each for up to two additional entries. Artists will be limited to a maximum of five entries. The art work must be that of the submitting artist, and the Art and Gift Gallery reserves the right to jury all work for acceptability. Awards will be given for Best of Show as well as First, Second and Third places, Honorable Mention, and People’s Choice. Cash awards will also be presented for some of the artistic awards. Take part in the celebration of North Platte's railroad heritage. Judging will be completed in time for a public reception from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 14. The gallery will be open from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. throughout Rail Fest weekend, including Sunday, Sept. 16. The “Rails Across Nebraska” exhibit will remain on display until Saturday, Sept. 29, Boerner said.
