The on-again, off-again saga of Deb Fischer's speech at the Republican National Convention was settled during the noon hour Monday. Fischer will speak between 2-3 p.m. Central Time on Tuesday. Fischer was first scheduled to address delegates Monday, but rough weather forced organizers to cancel the entire first day of the convention. Many events were dropped and others, including Fischer's speech, were folded into Tuesday's agenda. Tropical Storm Isaac whipped the Tampa Bay, Fla. convention center with hard rain and high winds. Flooding in Tampa closed several main roads early Monday, including three roads downtown near the convention center, the Associated Press reported. The eye of Isaac passed Florida Monday and the storm headed for New Orleans. Fischer, a state legislator, is running in a key national race against former Governor and Senator Bob Kerrey. The convention runs Tuesday-Thursday. C-SPAN is providing gavel-to-gavel television coverage.
