Sabin dominates in Modified featureTell North Platte what you think

Creating a memory following the Stock Car 9 For 9 Challenge event the promoters from the trio of contributing tracks celebrated with the top five finishers which included (from left) Allen and Lou Wissman, promoters at Dawson County Raceway; Ed Milne, promoter at Lincoln County Raceway; Brandon Clough, fifth place; Casey Woken, fourth place; Kyle Werkmeister, third place; Mike Nichols, second place; Casey Werkmeister, first place and McCook Speedway promoters Chuck and Janet Gray.

It was all over but the singing at Lincoln County Raceway in North Platte on Track Championship night; with Josh Sabin, Bryan Herrick, Kyle Werkmeister, Austin Davis and Les Brogdon belting their sweet tune the loudest in winning Features on Saturday.

Grabbing an early lead from his inside second row starting position, Josh Sabin of North Platte drove away with the Feature win in the Modified division, as he weathered the storm of caution flags to net the checkered flag, leading from start to finish.

Heat race winner Dan Carl of North Platte held off all contenders for his runner-up position and finished the event with a stellar second place showing.

Driving from the back of the starting grid to claim show honors was North Platte’s Andrew Dillenburg.

With the fantastic finish in the feature event, Dillenburg claimed the season track championship for the Modified division.

Rounding out your top five were Brady’s Dave Pedersen and Jason Gallentine of North Platte in fourth and fifth place, respectively.


Northern Sport Mods

The racing action was as good as advertised in the Northern Sport Mods feature event, with Bryan Herrick of Curtis, piloting the Rubber Duck to the checkered flag and the Season Track Crown.

Starting in the fourth row at the beginning, Herrick had his work cut out for him. Through perseverance and consistency, Herrick was able to snare the lead on a restart on lap seven to pace the field for the remainder of the event for the victory.

Heat victor Shane Stout of North Platte, pulled up to the back bumper of the Herrick hotrod numerous times, but wasn’t able to pass the Rubber Duck and finished in the runner-up position.

Closing out the regular season on fire behind the wheel of his rocketship, RC Heil of North Platte recorded yet another podium finish, as he finished third overall in the Feature from his sixth row starting position.

Jake Adler of Holyoke, Colo. represented the Rocky Mountain contenders quite well, as he was heavy on the loud pedal to the tune of a fourth place finish run from his fifth row position on the starting grid.

Capping off the top five finishers with a notable run was Matt Caudillo of North Platte.

In the early going of the feature event, Jeremy Halouska of North Platte led the first five laps, before Rodger Morash of North Platte garnered the lead during lap six. Morash got involved in a last lap incident to fall out of the top five finishers.


Stock Cars

The racing action overflowed with excitement in the Stock Car feature, with drivers shuffling back and forth during the initial feature of the night.

Leading the lap that mattered most was Maywood hotshoe Kyle "The Closer" Werkmeister, as he took the lead on the final lap from Jeff Whiting of Gothenburg and won the feature.

Climbing to the front from his fourth row starting position was Harlan, Iowa’s Mike Nichols, who finished as the runner-up in the feature and won an earlier heat race.

Whiting recovered quite nicely from a minor miscue after leading from lap five until the 19th lap to notch a spot on the podium in third place.

Heat race winner and season track champion Casey Werkmeister of Maywood avoided all incidents to pickup a fourth place accolade for his efforts.

Brandon Clough of Wallace, who led the first four laps, stayed near the front in contention and was rewarded for his efforts behind the wheel to finish fifth overall.


Hobby Stocks

Taking advantage of the hand that he was dealt, Benkelman’s Austin Davis lead the final four laps to pick-up the victory in the Hobby Stock feature. Finishing second after leading the initial 11 laps was the Arnold speedster Brady Weinman.

Weinman spun in corner two to relinquish the lead to Davis, as Weinman kept in the gas and righted the ship to recover and finishing in the runner-up position.

Getting off to a slow start due to a traffic jam on the first lap, Chuck Ledbetter had his work cut out for him as he charged back within contention to finish third overall.

Rounding out the top five in the Hobby Stock feature was Scott Gibson and Rick Eller both of North Platte, crossing the finish line in fourth and fifth place.


Brogdon gets first Sport Compact win

Les Brogdon of North Platte picked up his first ever Sport Compact Feature win, by leading from start to finish.

Competing in a special event, the Burger Nine for Nine Challenge were the Stock Cars. Leading from the onset, Casey Werkmeister notched the big win.

Finishing in the place and show position in the special were Mike Nichols in second and Kyle Werkmeister in third place overall.
