• Weekend movies at the Platte River Mall include “The Bourne Legacy”, “The Campaign”, “The Dark Knight Rises”, “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days”, “Ice Age: Continental Drift 3D”, and “Total Recall.” Schedule subject to change, see www.carmike.com.

• Ft. Cody Trading Post (near I-80 & US 83) - live music by Latin Jam of North Platte and California blues player extraordinaire Laurie Morvan. 6-9 p.m. Family friendly. $5 adults. Food and refreshments available or bring your own. You cannot carry in alcohol.

• Historical Museum (2403 N. Buffalo Bill) – “Transcontinental Railroad” movie presentation, showing the evolving mobility of America. 7-9 p.m.


Friday, Aug. 10

• A to Z Books (507 N. Jeffers) – West central Nebraska’s Open Mic Nite. This week Irish music is featured. Established performers and newcomers. 7-10:30 p.m. Free-will donation. Refreshments provided or bring your own.

• Lakehouse (Lake Maloney inlet) - Live music by Rascal on the stage by the lake, 7-10 p.m.

• Memorial Park – free movie in the park, Despicable Me, a computer-animated comedy about a super-villain’s rivalry with another villain. Starts at 8 p.m. Free. Bring lawn chairs, blankets and snacks.

• Cedar Bowl (1100 S. Jeffers) – Cosmic bowling under black lights. 8-11 p.m. $4 per game.

• Sculley’s Shooters (2221 E. Fourth) – Live music by Thistle Down. 9 p.m. Cover charge.


Saturday, Aug. 11

• Garden Glove center (1800 E. 12th) – outdoor market, live music by Ray Mullen. 8 a.m.-1 p.m.

• Lincoln County Fairgrounds – raceway action with IMCA modifieds, hobby stocks, sports mods, etc. 7-10 p.m. Adults $10, Kids 6-12 $5, 5 and under free.

• Holiday Inn Express – Casino night with proceeds to benefit United Way Agency Programs. Includes auction, snacks, and appetizers. 7 p.m.-midnight. Tickets: $30.

• Senior center (900 E. Tenth) – Bingo, 7-10 p.m.

• VFW Post 1504 (2100 E. Fourth) – bingo, total of 24 games, starts at 6:45 p.m.

• North Platte Senior Center (900 E. Tenth) – the Golden Classics, a four-piece combo, plays a dance. 7-10 p.m. $3.


Thursday, Aug. 16

• Platte River Mall (near theater) – Farmer’s Market. Fresh produce, crafts, etc. 4:30-6:30 p.m.

• Historical Museum (2403 N. Buffalo Bill) – Special movie presentation “Standing Bear’s Footsteps.” 7-9 p.m.


Friday, Aug. 17

• Lakehouse (Lake Maloney inlet) - Business After Hours. Refreshments, socializing. 5-7 p.m. Bring a buck and a business card.

• Harvest Christian Fellowship church (1501 S. Dewey) - Family movie night. Rio. 7 p.m. $2 per person, includes pop and bag of popcorn. Proceeds benefit mission trip to Poland next year.

• Cedar Bowl (1100 S. Jeffers) – Cosmic bowling under black lights. 8-11 p.m. $4 per game.

• St. Patrick's Church (Fourth & Chestnut) - 60th annual BBQ dinner & fundraiser. Noon-3 p.m. Meal, lots of children's games. Raffle drawing for up to $1,000. Silent auction.
