A man charged with stealing three telephones from Viaero Phones in the Platte River Mall was arrested Saturday. Rosendo Duran, 20, of North Platte, is in jail, held on $10,000 bond. At around 12:30 p.m. July 21, a North Platte police officer responded to a reported theft of cell phones from Viaero at the Platte Valley Mall. The reporting Officer was advised by the Manager for Viaero Phones located in the Mall that the theft consisted of three different demonstration cell phones, taken on 7.20.12. A manager said Duran visited the business more than once before and showed particular interest in one of the phones. Police investigators found probable cause to arrest Duran and a warrant was issued. Duran was picked up Saturday after he was seen driving a vehicle near Allura Gardens. Duran was reportedly driving on a suspended license. He left the car on foot and tried to run, but was caught. Police found two of the three missing phones at a home in the 100 block of S. Walnut. Duran was jailed, charged with theft by unlawful taking, a felony. He was also charged with driving under suspension and obstructing a police officer because he tried to run away, according to a police statement. Duran has been jailed seven times in Lincoln County since March 2010, when he was arrested for failure to appear on juvenile charges.
