Four motorists were charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI) and 37 juveniles were cited for minor in possession of alcohol during the weekend at the annual Kearney Cruise Night. The Nebraska State Patrol, the Kearney Police and the Buffalo County Sheriff's office held the special enforcement in and around Buffalo County in conjunction with the annual Kearney Cruise Night celebrations that included a classic car parade Saturday night through downtown Kearney. In addition to the four DWI arrests and 37 MIP citations, troopers issued 21 citations and warnings for speeding. Officers cited 10 drivers for seat belt violations, three for driving under suspension and they issued five citations for possession of more than an ounce and less than a pound of marijuana, Nebraska State Patrol spokeswoman Deb Collins said. During special enforcement efforts conducted in 2011 during Kearney Cruise Night the number were similar -- three motorists were arrested then for DWI and 46 juveniles were cited for MIP. The special enforcement efforts conducted in conjunction with the Kearney Police Department and the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office were paid for in part by a $6,410 grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety.
