North Platte Community College’s new $10 million medical education center will officially open in time for fall classes.

The center will house the math and science departments as well as nursing, medical tech and dental assistant programs, President Ryan Purdy said.

Some of the classes that will be taught in the building include medical labs, emergency medical services (EMS), dental assistant, biology, chemistry, physics, microbiology and math, Purdy said.

The college board of governors is considering a new cafeteria near the student dormitories to accomodate more students, but no decisions have been made yet, Purdy said.

The grand opening of the new medical center will be held Aug. 27. North Platte is a key campus in the college's 18 county area, which covers one-third of Nebraska.
