A North Platte man wrote a check Wednesday morning for three vehicles at Janssen Motors but didn’t have the money. Christopher M. Fichtner, 31, is in the Lincoln County Jail, charged with theft by deception and forgery. After Fichtner left the dealership with the vehicles, the dealer checked with the bank and found that not only was there insufficient funds in the account to cover the checks, but Christopher's name was not listed on the account, a North Platte police spokesman said. The account holder was contacted and said Fichtner did not have permission to write checks on the account, police said. Police found Fichtner the next day and arrested him without incident. He was charged with felony theft by deception, since the amount of the check was more than $1,500, as well as second-degree forgery, the spokesman said. Fichtner’s bond has been set at $25,000.
